If so, this group might be for you!
This group is about understanding and befriending your nervous system through Polyvagal therapy. In this journey, we'll explore techniques and exercises to help you regulate your autonomic nervous system and enhance your sense of safety and connection.
What is Polyvagal Theory?
Polyvagal Theory is a scientific theory that helps us understand how our body and mind work together to respond to different situations. It focuses on the autonomic nervous system, which controls many of our automatic bodily functions like breathing, heart rate, and digestion.
According to the theory, our autonomic nervous system has three different states: the sympathetic state, the dorsal vagal state, and the ventral vagal state. Each of these states is associated with different emotions and behaviors.
The sympathetic state is activated when we feel threatened or stressed, and it prepares our body for fight or flight. The dorsal vagal state is activated when we feel overwhelmed or helpless, and it causes us to shut down and withdraw. The ventral vagal state is associated with feelings of safety and connection, and it promotes social engagement and relaxation.
The theory also emphasizes the importance of neuroception, which is our body's ability to detect and respond to cues in our environment. By learning how to recognize these cues and respond to them in healthy ways, we can regulate our autonomic nervous system and promote a sense of calm and well-being.
Overall, Polyvagal Theory is a useful tool for understanding how our body and mind work together and how we can use this knowledge to promote health and happiness in our lives.
